A talented pianist, writer and producer, Idris Phillips began playing classical guitar before the age of 10. As a traveller and performer, Idris toured the USA extensively under numerous monikers, performing as both a solo artist and

as a member of countless Jazz, Rock and Blues

ensembles of the 1980s and 1990s.

The list of world renowned artists Idris has backed,

opened for, recorded alongside or joined as a co-writer is staggering. That said, it is not fitting that Idris Phillips be mentioned on the coat tail of another musician or rest on

the laurels of his past musical achievements. Idris is the quality of man and composer who stands out alone and above others, for his graciousness, concern for humanity

and dedication to music that hits the very heart of listeners.

“Jade and Sky” marks the first solo studio album by Idris Phillips, proudly introduced by Silk Route Media, the distribution arm of an arts initiative and music publishing entity Idris himself has been apart of since 2006.

His use of Asian and Middle Eastern rhythms set against Jazz, Folk, and R&B arrangements, ensures his material holds a universal appeal. His piano sparkles, his guitar

work breathes and his voice soothes. Inspirations for Idris' work come from life experiences on the road, relationships, and in recent years from his deepening studies of

faith and philosophy.

Because of the deeply personal nature of his spiritual and musical paths, Idris maintains a low-key lifestyle and

prefers to let his songs speak for themselves. He is a

corner-stone of the Silk Route Media arts collective and regularly works with fellow artists Dawud Wharnsby (Canada) and Zain Bhikha (South Africa) to promote music as a tool for positive social change. Having performed in Malaysia, the UK, Holland and Australia, his reputation

has gained him devoted support from music loves world-wide. As testimony to his concern for the welfare of

children, in 2008 he inaugurated the Anderton Park Children's Center in Birmingham, United Kingdom and performed at it’s opening.

Residing in Nashville TN, Idris juggles being on tour regularly with his work as a producer and session player for several other international artists. But no matter who’s album he’s working on or what country he happens to be in, behind his smiling eyes there is always an 8 year old boy who simply loves to play and desires for nothing more than to create and share good music with others.
